ThermoGIS v2.6, May 2026

The main changes in ThermoGIS version 2.6 are:

  • Use of the 2026 SDE++ subsidy scheme
The economic calculations in the previous ThermoGIS version used the now obsolete SDE++ subsidy amounts for ‘geothermal energy as base load’ in the ‘deep (<4000m)’ and ‘ultra-deep (>4000m)’ classes.  The economic calculations in v2.6 are based on four categories: shallow geothermal energy (base load 500–1500 m) and deep geothermal energy (base load 1500–4000 m) for the capacity categories <12, 12–20 and >20 MWth. Further information on how the SDE++ base amounts are used to calculate the economic potential can be found here.
  • Definition of Potential Recoverable Heat
The Potential Recoverable Heat (PRH) was defined in previous versions as amount of heat per year. Following Kramers et al. (2012), from v2.6 onwards, the PRH is defined as amount of heat per 30 years.
