ThermoGIS shows the geothermal potential of 29 water-bearing layers or aquifers (reservoirs), five aggregate layers that consist of two or more aquifers (shown in column 'ThermoGIS period') and an overview layer covering all aquifers (see table below). The Nomenclature of the Deep Subsurface on the DinoLoket website provides more geological background on the aquifers.
The Dinantian (a.k.a. Carboniferous Limestone Group or Zeeland Formation, which was present in previous ThermoGIS versions, was removed for the current version. The reason is that it is not possible to calculate permeability maps for this unit, and therefore the potential can not be calculated. Two doublets that produced from this unit are currently suspended, and there is no geothermal production from rocks belonging to it in the Netherlands.
